|Ellis had never encountered a woman - hell, a person! - who was like Xanthe. Certainly he hadn't spoken at length to many others he had met in life in the way that he had spoken with Xanthe in just a couple of days, but that was because they weren't open in the way she was. Speaking to her was easy, and he could feel his anxiety ebbing the more the two spent time together. He hoped that she would be just as open when he asked her to come with him to Fort Fabelle to speak with Pelagia, to show how much he had accomplished in the name of Queen Fabelle and Aurcaele. Perhaps then Xanthe would speak to her own people and show them that the Aurcaelis meant them no harm, that they simply wanted to help bring Atton into the modern world. It was so exciting. He wanted to learn all he could from her. The pendant was next.|
Her word for it for easy to say, he didn't struggle with the d in demas the way he had struggled with the p in pendant and it made him feel more confident. But the next thing she said confused him. She pointed to herself and said a word he thought might mean "heart" where she was pointing -- but then she pointed to Ellis and said a different word. What did she mean by it? He thought on it for a moment, and then nodded his understanding. "M-man," He said as he pointed at himself, and then pointing to Xanthe: "G-gi... W-woman."
It was then that he remembered what he had come here for. To scout the area. He remembered the tree and how hypnotizing it was, and he turned to look at it. It still sparked with blue light, running across the burned branches almost quicker than his eye could see. He gestured to the tree and then said: "T-t-tree. Xanthe's word?"
