| Charlotte was impressive to Tehodis in a lot of ways. She was a true diviner - and not just in magic, but in mind. She was intelligent and worldly, and knew how to interpret these things that had come unbidden to Tehodis. Perhaps if she had a mind like Charlotte, she would try to silence these thoughts less. Perhaps if she had a mind like Charlotte, she would open herself up to her potential. But she didn't have a mind like Charlotte, and it was far easier to empty her mind to allow herself a simple life. |
Now, of course, it didn't seem like she could do that. Charlotte's interpretation suggested that something may have needed to be done before The Sisters. It was almost a year away, and yet was far too close for what Tehodis had seen. What if she did not know what needed to be done before then? What if she thought she knew, but it was the wrong thing? What horror could happen eight months from now?
Sure, not everything she saw would come true... But if she failed to do something? Would someone else lose something dear to them, the way that Tehodis had lost her arm? She couldn't bear that responsibility. Could she simply... Wipe the thoughts away once more, forget that it had been seen, and relieve herself of the guilt? Her fingers tightened on the candlestick, but her mind was focusing on the leaves in her pocket. She'd need to brew the potion soon if it were to erase these memories. She would need to decide soon.
And if she was going to erase all of that, perhaps there were more things she could learn about. Things she could find out now, and then forget if they were terrible. She nodded to Charlotte, hemming and hawing about whether or not to continue. In the end, she decided she wanted to know. Too curious for her own good, she bit her lip and continued her questions: "If you don't mind my asking, Charlotte-- the man. The one who was trying to help you? Do you know him already? Do you... Who is he?"
