The warmth of Simon's hand settling over his own stilled Endless's expression for a moment, and he found his eyes flitting down to the place where the two were now making contact, staring with a feeling not quite amazement, not quite awe, but something close to both. Because it was astounding to him how such a simple, basic gesture could put him so much at ease, relax him more than his position by the fire swaddled in blankets was already doing. His parted lips pulled at the edges into one more tired smile, and he turned his luminescent gaze back to Simon.
"Me neither. Count on that." Forgetting wasn't so much the problem anymore. The challenge that lay ahead of him was the issue of remembering. But regardless of what came with those memories, Endless could at least rest assured that nothing he could recall of his past was going to make him forget his present. He turned his hand beneath Simon's so that the palm was facing upward, and gave the other man a light squeeze.
And then the two of them, seemingly content, drifted off.
Endless would not find quite so peaceful or blissful a slumber, however. In the hours that passed as he drifted into what he felt was unconsciousness, he was plagued by thoughts of anxiety and doubt. The potion in the tea sat prominently at the center of his thoughts, the image of Tehodis's back turning away from him, and something more dim, beyond the curtain that he could never seem to see past. A fleeting glimpse of wings. Sometimes bug-like, sometimes blue and feathered. His brow furrowed in frustration as he couldn't seem to will his arms to move and pull the curtain wide open, to truly see what was on the other side.
And that's when his eyes finally opened again, mere hours after having fallen asleep. Simon was still beside him in his chair, his hand still wrapped loosely around Endless's. His chest moved gently up and down with the motions of a peaceful sleep. Endless blinked at the darkness in the room, noting that the fire had dulled to a low burn, and the moons were partially obstructed now by clouds outside, dimming the glow of his own eyes. He'd never had any trouble seeing in the dark, though, with or without the moons, though the color of things seemed to change depending on how much light there was to go on. And with the color that the room was currently draped in, something halfway Sepia, the surface of his tea wound up catching his eye. A deep red color, desaturated in the dark but still catching the light of the flickering flames nearby and the occasional stray moonbeam. It stood out to him more than any other muted color in the room.
His thoughts revisited the dream he'd been having, and his fears began to dismiss themselves, replaced by an urge to know.
He looked around. Simon was still sleeping peacefully. There was no sign of Tehodis or Lila being awake in their room, the whole cottage silent. Tehodis didn't want to be part of this anyway, and Endless had to admit that he didn't quite like the idea of remembering everything he had forgotten with a room full of people there to watch him do it.
He swallowed, turning his gaze back to the tea, and used his free hand to pick the cup up. Slowly, he raised it to his lips, noting that it was somehow still warm - likely an enchantment, or perhaps just a side effect of what kind of drink it was. Endless Laeretti tipped his head back and swallowed the brew alongside his doubts. And for a moment, nothing happened.
And then a moment later... everything changed.
