The 7th of the Scales of Judgement
Night in the Attonja Village
When they had gone through the tree, Ellis had been excited to see the village again. He thought of the friendly faces he had met before, and wanted to see what they would look like when Xanthe told them there may be peace on their horizons... But his hopes were dashed when his eyes adjusted to the scene before him. The faces weren't hopeful - they looked guilty.
The tree that Xanthe had brought them through was surrounded by warriors that had been waiting for her return. Evokers lit the darkness with light spells, torches useless in the pouring rain pelting the village. Each warrior held their weapons with tight fists, some knuckles coloured white from the nerves knotted in their stomachs. Reacting to the signal of the tree being struck by a massive bolt of lightning - announcing Xanthe's return - the crowd parted to reveal Kavnok. "L'rana ruba fa thax, 'Qoah'?" He tone was accusatory, he circled the tree. No one spoke up to tell him that speaking to Xanthe with such a tone was unacceptable. They were following him.
"Je fa xea l'rus ruvax'et ox fa uthtaxt, 'Qoah'?" Kavnok once again was accusing her. He stopped in his circle, standing in front of them once more, "La lana usum'et thi oxbujanz. Th'nesanz. Totsanz. Mojz. Jauj. Sumax."
Ellis understood what was happening, and wanted to tell them it was not his people, it was not Feofil's, not Erik's -- it was someone else. They would help. They would strike back. They would get revenge. They would get the taken back -- he stepped forward, in front of Xanthe, and spoke up: "Xanthe d--" An arrow was fired from a distance, and landed at Ellis' feet. A warning. Kavnok's glare stilled him before the warrior continued: "Sad yi -- sad Attonja -- l'ri fa dahs Attonja se joa, 'Qoah'!"
L'rana ruba fa thax, 'Qoah'? -> Where have you been, 'chief'?
Je fa xea l'rus ruvax'et ox fa uthtaxt, 'Qoah'? -> Do you know what happened in your absence, 'chief'?
La lana usum'et thi oxbujanz. Th'nesanz. Totsanz. Mojz. Jauj. Sumax. -> We were attacked by invaders. Brothers. Sisters. Children. Dead. Taken.
Sad yi -- sad Attonja -- l'ri fa dahs Attonja se joa, 'Qoah'! -> Tell me -- tell (your people) -- why you left (your people) to die, 'chief'?
