The courtyard of the great palace was overgrown with weeds and tough grass. It had been abandoned for centuries and now only the strongest or most desperate plants thrived, overtaking what would once have been elaborate, immaculate gardens fit to inspire awe into anyone who visited. Standing at the front gate, or what was left of it, it was easy to see why this location had been chosen by one of his tribe's past chiefs for the Uhane Holo. In its prime, long before the monarchy in Dirys had been dissolved, this palace would have been on the most incredible buildings in all of Fortuna. Even now despite the dirt and disrepair it was a monolith - the building alone could fit his entire village many times over.
Kapu lowered the hood of his cloak almost in reverence as he began to cross the courtyard. He had heard stories from his own people about what the palace had been like in its prime, and he had more recently heard stories from the people of Dirys that the building was haunted, or cursed, or home to thugs or squatters. It was amazing to him that something that had once held such meaning and value could simply sit abandoned, all but forgotten by the people of its own country, while it continued to hold an important place in his own culture despite being worlds apart. He supposed the lessons he would learn from this location would be different now than when it had first been chosen for the Uhane Holo, but he knew already that it would serve as an important lesson regardless. Perhaps a lesson that no matter how important the history, it could so easily be forgotten by a nation.
Perhaps there was some truth to the rumours he had heard though. As he neared the building he saw movement in an upstairs window, though in the darkness inside he was unable to make out the details. It could be one person or more, or perhaps not a person at all but an animal, or a beast. He had come to the palace without his bow, having expected it to be an interesting but largely uneventful trip, and as he noticed more movement in one of the lower windows he wondered if he was walking into more than what he was prepared for.
No, he was confident in his abilities with or without the bow. He had his hunting knife and the magic gifted to him by Wyghal. Wherever he went he would be protected by his own strength and that of his God.
The front entrance of the palace was boarded up thoroughly, likely in an attempt to dissuade break-ins though the movement he saw inside showed it clearly hadn't worked to expectation, which meant there was an alternate entrance somewhere - possibly a side door that was less fortified or a window broken over the years. He would find it. He may not be sure he wanted to be chief yet, but it would be an insult to the his tribe and the Uhane Holo not to give it everything he had.
