The Mysterious Beasts of Fortuna

Magical Beginnings

"Monsters" first came into being in Fortuna as a result of the influence of Miynie, Deity of Magic, and her mist which permeated the world. Though this is the shorthand by which they are commonly referred to, their more technical name is "Beasts of the Mist", or alternatively "Phantom Beasts"; these two terms are more commonly used to describe the more harmless of Fortuna's strange creatures, while "Monster" is more primarily used to refer to the more dangerous creatures.

Whatever you call them, these creatures would never have evolved naturally in the world of Fortuna without the magical influence that changed the world. Of course, even despite their fantastic range and seemingly overpowering traits in some cases, the very magic that made them has also deeply affected the world around them, and given even more "natural" beings, including regular animals, the means to coexist beside these creatures. As such, while some of these beasts are quite deadly to an unwary traveler, they've done surprisingly little to actually affect the natural world around them, almost as though the gods themselves wished to see to it that their natural world be preserved.

Although, not all of these beasts have had no effect on their world - quite to the contrary, some of the deadliest creatures listed here have earned their reputations solely because of how drastically they could, or in some cases already have, changed the world around them.

Here you will find documentation of the Phantom Beasts that call Fortuna home, where you might find them, and other useful information. Happy hunting!

Deific Matrons

Though Phantom Beasts originally came into being as a result of Miynie's influence, these creatures have all since been claimed and alligned to Fortuna's deific pantheons.

Though Miynie would have been content to rule them herself, happy to be the Goddess of Monsters as well as Magic, she alone was no longer capable of this feat once her power had been split apart into the gods of her Pantheon. As such, each of her sisters took up the task of presiding over certain creatures in the world, depending on what kinds of magics or physiologies they based their forms from. This was deemed as necessary, as otherwise their existence would have upset the Magical Balance of Fortuna, and none had the heart to simply exterminate all of the world's Phantom Beasts to solve this problem. Of course, even if they could bring themselves to do so, the existence of Miynie's pantheon would merely bring more monsters into the world eventually, thereby rendering it moot.

For those deities who could not take up the task themselves, due to being indisposed for whatever reason, Mighty Streike, Goddess of Death, was tasked with using her powers to forcibly bind certain creatures to the souls of those deities, so that even her sleeping (or bound) sisters could do their part.

It is said that any who is a true and devout follower of a certain Deity will never be harmed by a Phantom Beast that exists under that deity's jurisdiction, but it is unknown if this is quite true - either because those who think themselves true followers are not in fact as devout as they believe, or because those who have indeed never come under harm from certain creatures have never actually encountered them. As such, it is something of a wive's tale, and it is not advised that one tests it, especially against some of Fortuna's most feared creatures.

It is also said that Monsters which exist under the pantheons of sleeping or negligent deities are known to be much more dangerous or rambunctious. This is much more largely believed to be true, especially due to the fact that so many of the creatures said to be under the preoccupied Streike's jurisdiction are incredibly violent.

About this Info

The information presented here is meant to inform you as a roleplayer about some of the more fantastic creatures that inhabit your world, but do please always remember that your characters may not always know this information! Education on Monsters is widespread enough in Fortuna that most people will have a fairly good grasp on various bits of knowledge, so don't be too conscious of this, but just always remember to think logically about your character's background in order to reason how many details they know about certain creatures! For example, if you spent all of your life in one Nation, you probably wouldn't know much about a creature that was primarily native to another!

Natural Habitat: This will indicate the country where the beast in question is most primarily known to be found. A number of these creatures can be found in other locations as well, especially if they've been domesticated, but this still has varying levels of occurrence depending on the creature.

Intellect: This identifies the monster's general level of intelligence on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. Most beasts fall into the range of 3 or less, with 1 being rather mindless and incognizant; they typically run completely on instinct. Meanwhile, 3 reflects beings capable of social functions and receptiveness to suggestion from sentient Fortunans, lending to the possibility of them being pets. 4 is an exceptional degree of intelligence and understanding, and rarely occurs. Such creatures are often considered untamable, though it has been observed as possible. 5, meanwhile, is a level of sentience that rivals the average Fortunan, and typically the only thing setting such creatures apart from the Fortunans is the lack of organized society, an inability to integrate with those outside of their own kind, or the presence of too many basal instincts.

Threat Level: This value, also from 1 to 5 stars, describes the general level of aggression and danger present in a creature. Some beasts, despite overwhelming power, are fairly unthreatening due to docile natures (so long as they aren't provoked). Others are extremely aggressive, and if they are also very powerful on top of that, must be avoided at all costs.

Anpu Canis Daemonius
Information
Common Habitat
Thought by some to have once been a pet of Thorseph, deity of sleep and dreams, the popular theory is that the beast was corrupted by Masaan, evil god of murder, transforming the Anpu into a beast of nightmares that stalks the night. Though noble Khades assumed jurisdiction over the creatures since, their nature is difficult to contest - these vicious demonic wolves make nary a sound save for a blood-chilling howl, remaining unnaturally silent otherwise. They move through shadows, kill mercilessly, and it is said that if one survives an encounter with one, it will haunt their nightmares in nights to come. There have been unsettling cases of people dying in their sleep...

Common Habitat
This species of serpent is not known to breed at all; instead they are born from magical magma pools in Fianese volcanic ranges, with their luminous red eyes and smoke-exuding bodies an inidcator of this. They are said to have nasty temperments in the wild, but there are dedicated hunters who manage to snatch them up fresh upon their birth, reering them carefully to be comfortable with humans so that they can make reasonably well-adjusted pets. As pets, they are favored especially among assassins.

Astralflaik Lynx Pellicosmos
Information
Common Habitat
This exotic, mid-sized feline is highly regarded for its very interesting fur; its coat is a literal moving picture of the cosmos. Distant stars, galaxies, and even occasionally the moon can be seen drifting along the Astralflaik's coat in the form of various spots of fur that change color constantly. Each Astralflaik's coat shows the view of the sky from a specific spot somewhere in Artavia, their native land, and so many petowners see it as an adventure to find wherever that spot may be with their Astralflaik. This is the most popular pet in Artavia, and one of the most popular in Rielcia as well.

This bizzare creature flies throughout the stratosphere, further out than even the airborn nation of Artavia drifts, and is thus seldom seen. Researchers are uncertain as to how it achieves flight or levitation on account of the few opportunities there have been to study it, though there are several theories. Despite its incredible size (roughly seventy feet of coiling mass with twin jaws as long as a bus), it seems entirely non- threatening, barely paying Fortunans any mind when they happen to see it flying by.
Aliecorpum Vorma

Creature of Temos

Information
Common Habitat
This vulture-like bird only ever flies in rain. Despite being scientifically capable of flight at any time, the birds seem to refuse to do so unless it is raining, even when under attack. Their feathers have the ability to repel water, ink, and other viscous substances, making them very capable of this specialized mode of flight. The sight of them flying in combination with their mournful cry saw that they were once seen as omens of death, but it is now known that their cry foretells the coming of rain. It is thought that some Augurey can even summon rain at will with their call.

An animal with a universally haughty nature, the Bejeweled is a type of cat whose form has been embedded with jewels. They prominently feature a large gem on their foreheads, and some also have jewels along the lengths of their bodies as well. These cats are known to have finicky personalities and do not offer affection easily, though they are highly regarded as pets regardless of this. Unfortunately, they are also often targeted by poachers due to their jewels, leading to them being endangered - and all the more expensive as pets for it. Though not often seen, there are some who insist that the Bejeweled is capable of extreme loyalty.

Draconium Rumphaeamus
Information
Common Habitat
The uneducated might be surprised to find that, in spite of its smaller size (about the length and height of a Monarch's ornate bed), the Berrek is one of Fortuna's most feared dragons. Massive claws the size of its head, a spiny back of unbreakable spikes, a long, fishhook- like tail that can skewer and capture prey, and massive saber-like fangs combined with a lethal killer instinct. Add in a firm musculature, and it's easy to see why this dragon has such a fierce reputation in spite of the lack of flight or fire breath.

Charback
Draconeum Pyrategus
Information
Common Habitat
This black-scaled dragon is about the size of an Elephant when full-grown, and is known to swim through pools of Magma as though it was water. Impervious to extreme heats, this creature's body is able to absorb heat through a patch of searing coals that are embedded onto its back, causing the distinctive cloud of smoke that wafts behind the Dragon in flight and gives it its name. Despite its intimidating appearance, this Dragon is mostly docile, preying only on small mammals.
Dragonis Dragona

Creature of Paiia
Dangers
★ Fiercely protective, this Dragon will attack if it feels its young or a beloved partner is threatened.
★ Can unleash the most intense flames of any Dragon known to Fortuna by expelling all of its absorbed heat through its breath.
★ Hardened, thick scales that are said to be as hard as Diamond.
★ Large and with a musculature to match.

Helpful Points
★ Outside of provocation or protection, it is largely non violent.
★ While heat-resistant, its underbelly is still soft and vulnerable.
★ Their agreeable natures have made them tamable companions with a protective streak for their owners. Though unless you have a way to resist the heat, it is not advised to ride one.

Cheshire Slug Brucus Risum
Information
Common Habitat
So named for the perpetual grin it wears that many consider to be irritating, this pesky Nisequois native has a habit of tormenting Fortunans that happen to be moving through an area in which the slugs occupy. Such torments include leaving silky strands to trip up travelers, dropping objects from trees, or startling them by suddenly dropping from a branch and slobbering on them, which produces a temporary hallucinogenic effect. While these creatures never attempt to kill travelers, and their antics are thus technically harmless, there have been cases where they inadvertently get travelers killed at the hands of other predators.

Cloud Bison Bovus Nebulus
Information
Common Habitat
One of the most peaceful and most mysterious creatures in Fortuna, the Cloud Bison is almost more of a natural phenomenon than an animal. They form from the clouds in Aurcaele completely unpredictably, and thus do not breed. Sometimes they form at full size, which is about twice the overall size of an actual bison - and a fraction of the mass. Still other times they form as calves and there appears to be no rhyme or reason to this. Cloud Bison drift through the sky and graze upon the very clouds they form from, and are known to expel rain as though it was waste. Some farmers thus routinely round up wild populations and keep them on hand as their own personal rain clouds.

Couatl Serpenium Pennatus
Information
Common Habitat
Regarded as the faithful animal companion of the deity Ayniea, Couatl are feathered serpents with rainbow- colored scales and feathers, and they are revered by the Church of Ayniea. They are an uncommon sight, often staying away from Fortunans, but they are most often seen around Aurcaele, and it is thought to be a good omen to spot one in flight. Some say that Couatl await those who climb towards the Fountain of Eternal Life, offering some form of trial, but there are no known persons who have completed the climb who can verify this. To find a molted Couatl feather or scale is considered extremely good luck. Obtaining them unjustly, however, such as by poaching, is an offense punishable in Aurcaele with life imprisonment - and sometimes fleeing Aurcaele won't be enough to stop the Enforcers.

Common Habitat
This Sumish Dragon is a rather beautiful sight to behold, on account of its many protrusions that resemble coral reefs. This also allows the Dragon to blend in with the coral in its home, used both in hunting and in hiding from larger predators in the deep seas. This dragon also has the capacity to put itself into a deep sleep when environmental conditions are not optimal for its survival, lasting years at a time this way. This has caused a number of them to actually be mistaken for coral reefs for a time, only for those reefs to abruptly go missing.

Instead, the Crimp uses a long tongue to detect changes in the air, and scientists have confirmed the use of high-pitched ecolocation as well, beyond the hearing range of most Fortunans. Despite having no wings, it somehow possesses the ability to fly, and they have breeding grounds in Vieran mountain ranges.

Supposedly the result of years worth of selective breeding from the Jareiden breed of Dragon, this is one of the only Phantom Beasts in Fortuna that was more the doing of mortals than Miynie. This dragon can be found all over the world, and they are only ever found in the wild as strays. It's commonly believed that they cannot survive in the wild for long, though, so they are often rescued.

Combine this with its streamlined body, built to cut through waves, and an internal biology designed to retain every trace of body heat for bursts of shockingly fast swimming power in such cold waters, and it's no surprise that this creature is so feared. Aiss sailors are known to build their ships with especially thick hulls; it slows travel, but is the only effective ward against these beasts biting through them.

★ A ship-sinking menace, do not sail in Aiss waters with an unprepared ship.

Glitz Squamas Iris
Information
Common Habitat
This beautiful fish is widely loved, and protected in Submiere, and has fans the world over. The Glitz is so named on account of its gorgeous scales that reflect light in an array of colors, while its fins shift through a number of colors (believed to be used in mating displays) which can catch and cast off light from the surface, thus throwing more lights and colors onto its own scales.

Glitz scales are used as lucky charms, potion ingredients, and the most beautiful are even used as tokens of engagement; of course, they are only permitted to be collected when naturally shed, as it is illegal to harvest the scales directly. The Glitz is a popular mascot animal of Submiere, and is the face of the Aquanatul Natatorus research facility.

Griffon Iuncturum Aquileones
Information
Common Habitat
Griffons are some of Fortuna's most respected and majestic beasts, treated with the same level of admiration and cautious fear as one might treat a wild wolf or lion.

When tamed, they are said to be excellent and loyal companions, as well as intelligent, but they will always have an unbreakable wild streak that advises caution in handling.

In the wild, on the other hand, they are best not approached, as they can be quite vicious and quick to see you as potential prey. The bird portion of a Griffon is widely varied, and thus defines a number of subspecies with different behaviors, while the color of the lion portion of the beast can also vary. Trained Griffons can be ridden as a method of transportation, though it's typically only skilled handlers who can get them to allow such a thing.
Alatia Iuncturum

Creature of Veira
Dangers
★ Though varying by bird-type, typically possesses sharp talons on the forelimbs, capable of powerful grip.
★ Also varying, its beak is often very powerful and capable of deep gauging.
★ Both aggressive and proud, it will fight more intensely the more injured it gets.
★ Some are proficient in Transmutation WIND magic, amplifying the air they displace with their wing flaps into powerful gusts.
Helpful Points
★ Crippling its wings is a major advantage.
★ On land, its front quarters are usually more clumsy.
★ Some say it will always remember an act of kindness from someone while it was injured.

Grimalkin Felinum Transeos
Information
Common Habitat
One of the most deceptive creatures in Fortuna for a number of reasons. The first is that in its default state, a Grimalkin heavily resembles a common black cat, with physical differences so obscure that most would never notice it at first (one must carefully notice the round pupils, instead of the typical slits, and the absence of claws).

The second is because the Grimalkin is a creature known for its ability to shape shift. These animals are capable of morphing themselves into the appearance of anything they see, though the sophistication of this transformation depends heavily on how much of it the animal can actually perceive. As such, small surface details may look off, and can thus tip you off to a transformed Grimalkin. They can also mimic voices of living things after some exposure to it, aiding in their convincing performance. But while more intelligent than most animals, Grimalkins are still beasts, and are limited in their capacity for thinking and understanding. They base their performances on mimicry; as such, asking surprisingly simple questions can often be enough to expose a Grimalkin.
Mammalia Felinum

Creature of Miynie
Creature of Khades
Dangers
★ Though Grimalkin do not typically have sinister motives of their own for their transformations, they may often be at the command of someone else with more untoward ends, which is the real reason they are considered dangerous.
★ A Grimalkin that has a strong understanding of its target can pull off transformations that are virtually impossible to see through.

Helpful Points
★ A Grimalkin's transformations are limited to a maximum of one hour; all studies have confirmed that they cannot hold an assumed shape for any longer than this, and must rest for a duration equivalent to their transformed time.
★ Due to the potential dangers and reputation, they are banned in most countries outside of the Eleusia continent, limiting the likelihood of encountering one.
★ Divination Magic users can use spells of sight to see through a Grimalkin's disguise.
★ If ever you are suspicious around someone, asking some personal or invasive questions can help expose them, as they have limited intelligence.

The Guardian
Sociosaurus Clypeus
Information
Common Habitat
One of the most socially interesting animals in Fortuna, the Sociosurus Clypeus, commonly known as 'The Guardian', is a reptile with no gender that reproduces completely asexually. However, they lack the means of accomplishing this on their own; instead, they appear to require the proteins of other reptile and avian species in order to render themselves fertile for the production of their own eggs. But rather than forcibly take those proteins from other species, they have developed an interesting symbiotic relatonship with other animals; Guardians are sought out by reptile and avian species that share living environments with them, finding them via a pheromone that the Guardians secrete. Once found, Guardians are then guided back to the other animal's nest of freshly laid eggs.

From that point forward, The Guardians will protect both the animal and their nest with absolute ferocity, viciously attacking any potential intruders, until the eggs hatch. Once they have done so, The Guardians are then permitted to eat the discarded egg shells, leftover yolks, and any dead young that did not successfully hatch, gaining the necessary proteins to fertilize themselves for the birthing of their own young.
Reptilia Dinosauria

Creature of Fayana
Dangers
★ The danger these creatures pose depends entirely on when they are found.
★ If a Guardian is not currently protecting a nest, they tend to completely ignore Fortunans, as their primary prey actually consists of small mammals.
★ If encountered while they are protecting a nest, however, they are incredibly vicious and deadly, boasting many skills.
★ High ground speed.
★ Incredible biting power with rows of fangs .
★ Exceptional flexibility and spatial wareness, reacting to attackers on all sides with claw swipes or tail smacks.
Helpful Points
★ No countermeasures necessary when it's not protecting a nest; just leave it alone on sight.
★ If encountered while protecting, get as far away from the nest as possible; it will not leave the area.
★ If forced to fight it, limiting its mobility is the most effective way to gain advantage; use ICE, MINERAL, NATURE, or other magics specialized for binding arts.

Jareiden Draconeum Dragona
Information
Common Habitat
Also known as the 'Common Dragon', the Jareiden is the world's most widespread and most "basic" Dragon.

They stand twenty feet tall from head to foot (with their necks fully elevated), and can measure up to thirty from nose to tail. They sport the typical accoutrements of Dragons as well, including a pair of leathery wings capable of strong flight, an internal ignition chamber that can produce Fire Breath, rows of fangs, and sharp claws attached to stocky, powerful limbs. This Dragon is capable of thriving almost anywhere, though they tend to stay away from the far North for their own comfort (though it has been observed they are capable of living there when forced).

They are primarily known to hunt mid-sized mammals and occasionally livestock, and while dangerous to mankind in the wild, they demonstrate the same typical level of aversion for Fortunans as most wild things do, attacking only in anamolous circumstances. This is the second most common domestic Dragon, after the Cyclops Dagger, which is a specially-bred offshoot of this species.

Creature of Veira
Creature of Paiia
Dangers
★ The typical: Claws, Fangs, Fire breath, and Strength.
★ Typically leaves Fortunans alone to live its wild life, but is certainly not above attacking if one draws too close.
★ Untrusting of people in general in the wild.

Helpful Points
★ Make for very solid, loyal pets when domesticated, though they tend to require a firm hand.
★ When fighting one, they are averse to cold, so use ICE Magic.
★ They don't particularly excel in any of the "Dragon Danger Areas", being only reasonably strong, reasonably fast, reasonably capable in the air, and having reasonably potent fire. Though at the same time, this means they lack a concrete weakness.

One of Fortuna's Seven Mythical Beasts, a group of creatures only rumored to exist, and regarded as urban myths by most. This creature is spoken of in Artavia. They say that in Artavia's fourth district, Himalius, there was once a thriving city in the center of all the farm land, the only proper city that existed in the District. That changed when a horrible creature suddenly emerged from the great beyond. A spider-like catastrophy that was as big as some buildings, the stories say. It laid ruin to Himalius's only city, and the people there never built such a city again...

It's a very interesting story, the likes of which is told around camp getaways late at night, but it seems impractically true. Artavia's government doesn't even recognize that there was once a city in Himalius, after all. And yet... there are dedicated explorers who have found strange, out of place remnants of concrete or bent out of shape power line poles in random, innocuous spots in the district. There are family records in Himalius from years back that, when traced forward, mysteriously and abruptly disappear... Delving too deep into the mystery has left many people very unnerved, and suddenly not wanting to know the truth.

Levias Altanubia Leviathan
Information
Common Habitat
One of Fortuna's Seven Mythical Beasts, a group of creatures only rumored to exist, and regarded as urban myths by most. This one is perhaps more contested than any of the others, simply because its existence is deemed impossible for practical reasons.

The Levias is described as a gargantuan whale or serpent, dwarfing in size all other living things on the planet (as well as all animals ever known to have existed in the past). There is a famous story that this beast once terrorized Aurcaele long ago, crushing landscapes and swallowing early iterations of sky boats. But then a daring sky sailor named Leviathan, who piloted some of the first fully-realized airships, was able to scare the beast off with his expert flying and his ship's weapons, and the beast was never seen again.

Most people the world over insist that it's all a bunch of hogwash, as a creature as massive as the Levias is described would be absolutely impossible to miss flying around the world, and so it seems unlikely that only the people of Aurcaele would have stories about it. And if it DID exist, where did it go? It's just too big to be possible. Still, the people of the town of Leviathan, named for the famous sailor and his battle against his namesake, continually insist that the tale is true.

These creatures are amphibious, and can move swiftly on land and even more swiftly in water.

They run on four legs on land, but are capable of standing and moving on two, freeing their powerful forearms for use in killing. They have vicious, merciless instincts, and attack virtually everything that isn't one of them (and sometimes they even attack their own). They are also known pack hunters, forming groups of up to seven individuals. Standing at seven feet tall at the shoulder in their usual stooped posture, they can reach twenty feet in total length from nose to tail. This size, combined with the fact that Nepradiles kill more people each year than most soldiers kill in a lifetime, has earned them their feared reputation, and even a position on the "Kill on Sight" list. Now if only killing them were actually an easy feat...

Though their purpose is unknown, the Natives have been observed making offerings to the creature, and performing what appears to be a salute or dance of some kind, and then afterward a noose is tossed around the creature's neck. This bears the appearance of a leash, but no pulling is neccessary, as once the process is complete, the P'Nux Lejan seems to willingly follow the Natives. Common Habitat
These simple organisms are a form of sentient plantlife that take root on aquatic sediment. Seaflare are a beautiful sight that are bioluminescent, casting off radiant glows in yellows, pinks, and magentas, depending on the organism. This glow attracts fish, with the Glitz being the most famous example, which are then enticed by an aquatic pheromone the Seaflare release in response to the fish's proximity. This pheromone causes fish to register Seaflare as something to be protected, and so they won't eat the creatures, and will instead rub their fins against a microscopic dust on the luminous membranes of the Seaflare; this dust is shed from the fish as it swims around, intermingling with the native bacteria on the fish's body, so that when the compound settles on a new surface, it eventually sprouts into more Seaflare.

Since the Seaflare dust gets rid of bacteria on the bodies of fish, and because grown Seaflares themselves filter microscopic germs out of the surrounding water for food, they are considered an incredibly valuable species for oceanic ecosystems, keeping the waters clean and keeping the fish healthy! Succubi usually possess beasts, using illusion magic to make those beasts appear as beautiful women, but a Succubus is often betrayed by the innate intelligence of the beast they are possessing - it dulls their own minds when controlling a stupid creature. They do their best to seduce Fortunans with simple gestures, waiting for the right moment to strike before shattering the illusion and springing forth from their host. Their goal: to siphon the soul of their victim through seduced acts of intimacy, so that they can take the corrupted soul back to Ephilroa for their demonic masters.

Information
Common Habitat
This spritely deer appears to have been a magical evolutionary change to deer species living in Liesdro, with the change having only occurred in the males of the species. In spite of their change, they can still breed and produce offspring with normal deer. The changes the magic of Liesdro brought to them made the stags more capable of protecting their mates and offspring, as they gained stronger legs, a faster jump, and the ability to empower their own stamina through the rays of light they absorb into their coats on a daily basis. As long as you aren't trying to attack it, however, it's a rather pleasant sight! Its shining green coat radiates light, and its antlers appear to sparkle in the sun.
Mammalia Cervus

Creature of Sriae
Dangers
★ Rarely aggressive, but has a powerful kick and dangerous antlers.
★ If approached too brashly or bothered too much, it becomes aggressive, especially if protecting young.
★ Immune to all forms of Evocative LIGHT Spells, as it simply absorbs them into its coat.
Helpful Points
★ Prefers to avoid conflict.
★ Making lots of loud noises can cause one to second-guess attacking you.

Vermors Famem Infinitas
Information
Common Habitat
A terrible worm known for its ability - and apparently also a need - to eat anything and everything. These blind creatures burrow through the earth, eating dirt and rock to carve out their tunnels with gnashing fangs that can, with enough persistence, break through just about anything, and are themselves ubreakable.

When they surface, it's because they require nourishment that the dirt can't supply, and they start seeking live prey. They hunt based on sound and vibrations, but they detest magic for reasons researchers are unsure of. As such, most modern cities charm their borders with basic spells that do nothing other than exist, giving off magical energy, as it prevents the Vermors from burrowing its way into those cities and snatching people from their homes through holes in their floors. Most governments in general try to keep this creature contained to specific areas with similar charms, for they could be an omnivorous menace to every country besides Rielcia, otherwise.
Insecta Vorma

Creature of Diassei
Dangers
★ Can and will eat virtually everything.
★ Voracious appetite.
★ Unbreakable fangs that can eventually chew through anything solid.
★ Fast and unpredictable movements.
Helpful Points
★ Seemingly mindless.
★ Detests all forms of magic and avoids areas that give off magical energy.
★ Blind and a poor sense of smell.

Vextralos Impium Axicius
Information
Common Habitat
An enormous, deadly insectoid predator, the Vextralos has an especially hardened carapace designed for the harsh climates. It is primarily found in Fiamont, but is also a common sight in Dirys and Muerte. There are some who consider this deadly creature to be related to the beastfolk Thri-Kreen, due to its high level of intelligence and observations suggesting that it practices its own language. But these monsters are much larger than Thri-Kreen, and in fact hunt Thri-Kreen tribes in the desert when available, being regarded as menaces by those people. The Vextralos is a merciless and violent hunter, and they do not form packs or groups - this is because they frequently engage in cannibalism, especially after breeding.
Insecta Dictyopus

Creature of Paiia
Creature of Fayana
Dangers
★ Multiple appendages tipped with sharp blades for tearing prey apart.
★ Extremely smart and capable of recogizing the escape plans of prey.
★ Thick carapace that is resistent to physical damage.
Helpful Points
★ It is not a fan of FIRE.
★ It has hydraulic-based movement, and thus eventually it reaches a point where it must come to a complete halt for several seconds to prepare for more movemet.

Volcadon Ventres Ardentrum
Information
Common Habitat
A dangerous super predator in Fiamont, the Volcadon ranges near active volcanos, and is symbiotic with volcanos in a rather dangerous fashion. Volcadons feed on lava, flames, and other major heat sources, but volcanic lavas are the primary dietary choice. This heat fuels the internal magical fire that sustains the Volcadon's life force, and in return, the Volcadon's very steps on the earth send heat down through the land's surface, adding more energy to Fortuna's core and thus encouraging the increased flow of more lava from its volcanos. As such, the existence of these creatures tends to mean increased volcanic activity in the areas they live in, which is objectively productive for the planet, but bad for nearby people.

Despite feeding on lava, the Volcadon is an aggressive animal that does not take kindly to others in its domain, and it has been observed eating other animals and even people if it catches them. After all, they are a heat source as well.
Reptilia Dinosauria

Creature of Paiia
Dangers
★ Boiling hot to the touch.
★ About as large as an average house, with proportional strength.
★ An explosive bite similar to that of the Cindermaw.
★ Aggressive and territorial.
★ Increases volcanic activity in the area.

Helpful Points
★ Surprisigly, does NOT possess Fire Breath - scientists speculate that it can't afford to lose the internal heat.
★ As its whole livelihood is based on consuming and retaining heat, ICE and WATER are like poison to it.
★ It moves at a fairly lumbering pace, and is only capable of short bursts of speed.

Weirdire
Draconeum Spiramortis
Information
Common Habitat
One of the world's rarest dragons - and society in general is quite thankful for that. Sightings of this beast often have entire cities in a panic, and desperately calling for an extermination.

The Weirdire is a dragon that lacks skin. As an adaptation for survival, it instead secretes a toxic, web-like substance that covers its body and encases it in a thick caste. Even when hardened in this state, it retains its toxicity, with some people having allergic reactions and others growing feverish or nauseus upon making contact with it; it tends to affect everyone a bit differently. The ignition chamber of this dragon is modified, as well. Like Fire-breathing Dragons, its ignition chamber produces a flammable, thick gas. Unlike other dragons, the chamber does not actually possess the friction glands that ignite the gas it produces, which causes the gas itself to overproduce and store in the dragon's innards, where its toxins are synthesized. This causes the stored gas to become poisonous, and the Weirdire uses this liberally as a weapon. Of course, even should it temporarily run out of stored gas, it has another formiddable weapon - its enormous size.

Necropsies have confirmed that the Weirdire's large, golden-glowing eyes are a mutation that results from the cells in its salivary glads, which produce the initial proteins that make up its toxins before they are synthesized in the kidneys.
Dragonis Dragona

Creature of Streike
Dangers
★ Poisonous breath more toxic than even the dreaded the Akhos.
★ A thick, cocoon-like caste that serves as impeccable (and replenishable) armor, which is also toxic to interact with, making it an excellent defense and offense.
★ Enormous size and strength advantage, being as tall as twenty-five feet at the shoulder and up to fifty feet long.
★ Its jaws and head alone make up a a fifth of its size.
★ Is surprisigly capable of a quick, lumbering run that does not crack its caste.
Helpful Points
★ This dragon does not have flight-capable wings, as they degrade quickly with age.
★ Though it is dangerous to engage the shell, once an opening is created the exposed membrane is devastatingly vulerable, and the Dragon's entire internal biology can be fatally disrupted with a penetrative blow to the right spot.
★ It is advised to have a specialist in healing magics on hand, as infection while battling this creature is all but inevitable.

Xankwile Canium Hysrixus
Information
Common Habitat
Regarded as the most terrifying predator in Muerte, the Xankwile is an eery creature that looks almost like a Hyena melded with a porcupine, with a gaunt frame and unsettligly tight-fitting skin. They move almost like shadows over the desert sands in Muerte, and their beady-eyed faces seem to hold a chilling expression of a constant grin. Their eyes light up in the darkness, and like many other of the world's most dreadful monsters, they hunt in organized packs. They are also alarmingly intelligent - such to the point of driving an entire city into a state of defensive fear.
Mammalia Canum

Creature of Streike
Dangers
★ The usual concerns - fangs, claws, and a shockingly powerful bite force.
★ Toxic quills which can be fired at will, and have a number of pathogenic properties.
★ Ingenuity and flexible joints allowing them to learn to climb, open doors, and memorize patterns and puzzles.
★ High ground speed.
★ Able to subsist on very little for many days at a time.
★ Darksight.
Helpful Points
★ Its body is a bit lighter than many other top predators, making brute force effective one-on-one, but beware being ganged up on.
★ Toxins can be counteracted by healing evocation of any kind - the toxins are based in negative magic, and so positive magic cancels it out, but only if this is done promptly before it takes effect.

Xinrra
Avicantum Mindaprinceps
Information
Common Habitat
One of Fortuna's Seven Mythical Beasts, a group of creatures only rumored to exist, and regarded as urban myths by most. Among that group of seven, it is also a member of what Fortuna calls "The Three Celestial Birds", a trio of birds said to be emissaries of the gods. Among its trio, it is said to be the messenger and bearer of heavenly virtues for Moann, Khades, Veira, and Fiorre, and it represents "Cleansing" in the cycle of existence.

The Xinrra, according to the tales, possesses the power to purify anything, from polluted environments to a corrupted soul. It wields command over the powers of wind, water, and ice, is said to come before those in need of self-reflection, guiding them towards a just path. Those foolish enough to attack a Xinrra are never able to even approach, barraged by a hailstorm of wind and frost, or even swept beneath the might of the seas. It is said to prefer peace to conflict, and is exceptionally wise.

Yuki-Onna
Effigium Mulieglacies
Information
Common Habitat
Legend says that there was once a matriarchal city of women in Aissic who regarded men with revulsion. Disregarding Fiorre's teachings of peace and equality, the leader of this city declared independence as a sovereign nation, declared herself Queen, and she and her people began to enslave all men in the city and the surrounding areas. Displeased at this behavior, the heavy-hearted Fiorre cast a powerful curse, even from the depths of her slumber, which opened wide the land and plunged the sinful city into the icy depths of the northern sea. There, it is said that the women underwent a monstrous change, and turned the surrounding ocean into a valley of ice...

The Onna valley is the only place in the world where the Yuki-Onna can be found, supposedly. They are beautiful - but deadly - phantom creatures of ice and snow, possessed of extreme intelligence and a vast hatred for mortals. And, they are known to hunt lone travelers.

Zizgran
Avicantum Tonicoronas
Among its trio, it is said to be the messenger and bearer of heavenly virtues for Miynie, Temos, Diassei, and Strieke, and it represents "Destruction" in the cycle of existence.

Unlike its fellows, who are said to be non-violent unless attacked, the Zizgran is stated to be a wrathful being, who soars where he pleases and punishes foolish mortals who dare to tred too far beyond their limits. However, others say that such stories are meant only to instill fear in people about the idea of progress and ingenuity by religious zealots, which stands in complete opposition to the heavenly virtues of Temos, but such people are often disregarded due to the general lack of credibility Temos has among mortals. Still, they believe the Zizgran to be a punisher, one who descends to right the wrongdoings of the too-powerful, using its bolts of holy lightning to smite them down. Interestingly, none of the stories speak specifically of what value the Zizgran gains from Diassei.

Trivia: The people of Fortuna do not know it, but the Zizgran is actually an emissary of the unknown Attonian storm deity, not Diassei. Diassei, as a wicked deity imprissoned in Ephilroa (also uknown to Fortunans) is not represented by any of the Celestial Birds.

Creature of Streike
Creature of Unknown
Dangers
★ Is said to possess dominion over Lightning and cosmic energy.
★ As a being of destruction, it is said to be aggressive for reasons only known to itself.
★ The stories also say it is completely immune to all magics, and cannot be controlled by them. In one story, it also broke the magical control a foolish summoner had cast on its fellow, the Phoenix.
Helpful Points
★ Like its fellows, it is said to be conventionally unstoppable.
★ However, it can also be warded away by the powers of its fellows, the Phoenix and Xinrra.
★ In some stories, pleas of mercy and sincere apologies for arrogance have been enough to earn its mercy.
